The Story Behind Our 00 Scale Model Railway Gauges
Growing up, I was lucky to have my grandad, Brian Luck, as a big influence in my life. He was a great man with a passion for collecting die-cast cars and model steam engines. His love for railways was something he often shared with me, whether through conversations, watching railway programs, or discussing the finer details of model train setups.
Brian Luck
The Kindest man your ever meet
But my grandad wasn’t just someone who loved talking about steam engines—he built a business around his passion. He owned many Traction engines and even a Ford Model T. He was a remarkable man, kind and hardworking, who turned his enthusiasm for steam into something real and tangible. His love for engineering and precision was something I always admired.
The Design
I remember a particular program on the Discovery Channel that focused on laying track and ensuring the correct spacing. My grandad would always say how important precision was in model railways. He told me that, back in the day, he would cut up cereal boxes, measure the correct distance, and use them as makeshift track gauges. He believed he had worked out the perfect track width, but unfortunately, he never had the opportunity to build his own model railway.
Years later, when I got into 3D printing, that memory came flooding back to me. I thought about how my grandad improvised with cardboard and how useful a proper, durable gauge could be for model railway enthusiasts. That’s when I decided to design the 00 scale track gauges that so many have now purchased and used in their own setups.

Not The First
It’s true that I wasn’t the first to create a model railway gauge, and I certainly won’t be the last. In fact, since I started designing and selling them, I’ve noticed other sellers offering similar products. Sadly, some have taken the design and, instead of carefully crafting their own gauges to precise measurements, they’ve simply downloaded a file and started selling it. The unfortunate reality is that these sellers don’t always check the accuracy of the files they use. If they did, they’d realize that the measurements are actually incorrect. This means that those who purchase these poorly made gauges may unknowingly end up with track spacing that is completely wrong.
Fit For Purpose
That’s why I take great care in ensuring that every gauge we produce is accurate and fit for purpose. When you buy from us, you’re not just getting a tool—you’re getting a product that has been designed with experience, passion, and precision. It’s all about keeping the spirit of model railways alive and making sure enthusiasts, like my grandad once was, can build their layouts the right way.
